Reynard was surely taking his sweet time heading north. The letter from Yisi requested him to go to Sweetberry in two weeks, and he was no more than a two-day ride to the town. His brand-new staves had been a little difficult to find, but paying off a Begnion clergyman for some spares from the church wasn't too difficult a proposition.

Letting the horse walk at whatever speed he wanted, he noticed its ears turn, as if listening for some nearby predator. Reynard trusted most animal's intuition about these things. Preventing the animal from slowing down, he continued to wander on towards Sweetberry. He'd never been in this part of the area, so if there was a local around, he'd ask them if there was a good camping spot nearby. Reynard could then check his mail by calling, and given enough light to read or write, would do so.

Reynard listened guardedly. It almost sounded like the old man here wanted something to happen. Or possibly had something planned out. "But boring is nothing more than what you are familiar with," Reynard sounded out, trying to imitate the old man's tone. He smiled, enjoying that little faux-philosophical shot.

"Reynard," he replied, offering a hand to the old man.

Yes. Several people dropped, but I forgot to make a post here that this is dead. Not really enough interaction for supports, but if you want to attempt anyway, I'll put it up for grading.

Reynard followed Yisi over towards the old man he'd encountered that snowed-in day. Rey waved to the geezer, and felt a shiver down his spine as he approached. All things considered, it was a huge improvement from before: he still remembered those days he felt horribly unclean. Or his skin crawled. Or all his hair bristled. All due to dark magic's presence. Though, there was something else in the back of his head - his innate magical sense seemed confused. As though there was something he hadn't ever encountered before present. A quick look around gave him no immediate answer, but whatever it was, it seemed to linger.

Pushing it aside unless it strengthened, Reynard returned to the man in front of him. He never got a whole lot of answers about the old man at the inn. But he didn't seem problematic. After all, whatever magical tome that was, it wasn't one of the Legendary Dark tomes. He was strong enough to wield one, surely, but flags were flying all throughout Reynard's head at that inn. And leading off of the assumption it wasn't, the geezer had been looking for attention from the girl and everyone else in the inn. Which he promptly got, until that young guy picked a fight.

Reynard grinned, "Well, I'll tell you all about it once we get some seats. But things are going a lot better than before." He seemed fairly pleased with himself. He wouldn't tell Yisi that he was trying to stay away from alcohol, but he'd certainly only have so much to drink. Just enough to be sociable. Besides, he'd probably have to lug Yisi to Yisi's room.

However, when Yisi stopped and took a survey, Reynard wondered what his friend was looking for. He turned about and spotted that old man. The same one from the bar when five of them had gotten stuck there. Funny to find him again. He turned away, and in retrospect, that was probably a bit rude not to even wave. But Rey was here to spend some time with Yisi. "Though, you'll have to tell me all about your adventures too, buddy!" Reynard elbowed him.

Reynard read the letter over once, and sighed often when he came to think about it. To him, it felt terrible. Because he never quite trusted her, he felt his suspicions were accurate. Which, in turn, was causing his friend a great deal of pain. She'd betrayed him once, and now, she left him. Though, it was nigh-impossible to tell what was going through Yisi's head at any time, and probably even moreso now.

These days, he carried a long quiver of four staves and his wooden staff. Nothing too fancy, but they were enough for what he wanted: Silence, Dispelling, Healing, and Barrier. If he ever needed to use a staff for close-combat, he'd reinforce his wooden staff for the occasion.

He'd ask Yisi soon about joining the Royal Knights, or maybe the Magic Corps, or whatever they were called. All he remembered was that seemingly haughty woman being in charge of it. He could live with that. Or maybe an investigator for one or the other... He realized he needed to think this through a little bit more, but there wasn't time to do so. His feet had already taken him into town, and there was Yisi, waiting. He waved, and made his way over to the man. "...It's been a while, Yisi," Reynard smiled.

Reynard nodded. Sounded pretty familiar. The roads weren't friendly to many. The last group of bandits he ran into took a few fireballs and then ran. "Sounds exciting..." His trail of thought was sharply twisted as the kid there spoke: "Why not let her speak for herself?"

Alright. He'd had enough. The younger guy over there was not only dismissive of her anima affinity and her person, but now was pushing for her to say more so he could blankly reject it. He turned to Verena, "Pardon me a moment."

Now, for the younger man. "Provoking her into saying something you can scoff at, or shooting off some stereotype of yours... just really makes you look like a jerk."

"Yeah..." He sighed, looking a little disappointed - both in his inability to keep her attention and his pupils. "That was me. It turned out that the pupils I picked were already beyond the level where I could help them." That in and of itself was a half-truth. He had lost track of one early on, and the other he'd only seen once, offering a little help, but not doing much otherwise.

She seemed to continue to be distracted, but the other conversation felt confrontational, now that the other man had entered. Reynard thought to himself, Innate Magical ability may point you towards another field, even if you are presented by more than one option. Nor is Dark Magic strictly evil...

"And what do you do in your free time?" Reynard asked.

"See you around," he repeated, walking off in the opposite direction. He felt a little better, all things considered. His conscience was cleared, and he didn't have to worry as much about an unpleasant duel in the near future. Though, with the way things were, he couldn't wait to get out of Begnion. No reason to stay, and no reason to come back in the near future. He just had to make it to the border, on the money he had left.

He noted a few odd stares he was getting. It was time to get a move on, and maybe find a place to hide away for the rest of his time here.

"Well, I'll be leaving early in the morning. I can't stay here too long," Reynard nodded. "...And if your friend is around here, tell her I'm sorry, would you?"

Reynard was a bit surprised. At both statements made. That old man had left this girl well enough alone, and... well, she was fairly mature, regarding magic. "...That's... fairly grown-up of you. To say something like that." Putting it into practice, as he knew, was something entirely different. It's why he used his hatchet when he could instead of magic. It wasn't any more efficient. It just felt good to use your hands for something other than a channel of power.

"...Right. The inn is two rows down..." He contorted his body, pointing to where he was explaining. "...if you take a right at the well there."

"I'll be heading north towards Crimea in the morning. I need to visit a few old friends," Reynard admitted. After a bit of an awkward pause, he sighed. "So..."

He didn't have a lot else to say on the matter. Sure, he might have wanted to know if she had seen the old man since their last encounter, but... well, there was no reason not to ask. "Did the old man approach you after that evening?"

"Sounds like a plan, your highness," Vai admitted. He had tuned out the conversation, a little annoyed at the Red Hero's complaints, and having nothing positive to say of the situation concerning the Beorc.

Chelsie, Chelsie, Chelsie. That name seemed to fit to that unmistakable face. "Well, thank you, again," He responded. "Is Chelsie the name of the girl with the corrupted eyes?" That question there tugged at another problem. One that, if he were able to find the girl again, he would probably offer to the girl in the same way that he'd offered to Mergie.

"And... what are you doing here, out of curiousity?" He wondered where Mergie's friend was too. The one that had shot him. He knew where the understanding was from, but he'd apologize, and hopefully, she would too. He couldn't remember if she had from the last encounter they had. He only remembered a little red-head girl getting rather angry with him - and he himself walking away the loser.

Reynard bit his lip. He'd slept hard last night, hoping to be able to sleep through the storm and be able to make today a long day trekking out. Though, her next question threw him even more off-guard. He wondered a little what gave him away. Did she think his brand meant something about his magical ability? If that was true, then... Reynard turned to the other man.

Well, at least it was an out for the other question. "You have staves. I'm curious though, what gave me away?" He put on a goofy grin. Though, he probably just outed himself if there was a lingering suspicion.

Well, his paranoia had been wrong. Probably. Though, to him, two magical users having the same idea seemed a little out of the ordinary. Especially when both were so young. "...Did someone help you come up with that idea? Using corruption magic like that?"

His paranoia continued to dog him, as he looked up and around to see if anyone was watching, as well as anyone who strayed very close to the two of them.

Reynard took a step back, hoping she wouldn't do anything else. "...I'm sorry. I... Thank you for saving my life last time." He looked down at the girl. "I was angry and in the wrong last time."

He couldn't seem to get out the words he originally wanted to.
