FEPlanet Forums _ Fire Emblem Tactics Online _ Mentoring

Posted by: Freeze Sep 25 2013, 01:30 AM

So I've had this idea in my head for a little bit and it has left me wondering if anyone would be interested.

Now that feto is in the process of being revived and there are more players coming to the game, the amount of decent players should be increased as well. Most if not all of the more decent players know however that the road to being a decent player is long and hard, especially if you're doing it on your own.

That's why, if there is anyone interested, I would like to introduce a mentoring program. The most basic of the idea is that all interested decent players can sign up here to become a mentor, these mentors will then tutor (promising) newbies that can sign up to be tutored, I will from here on call them novices. As a mentor you can pick who you want to mentor from the novices in need of a mentor list and you can decide yourself how many novices you mentor at a time.

How the tutoring is done is (mostly) up to the mentor.

So my idea is that because there is such a huge gap between newbies and decent players and because giving some tips here and there during a battle doesn't seem to be all that effective we should do some mentoring via the forums. I hope that this will result in a larger amount of capable players and less (promising) newbies quiting early because they don't know how to play this game.

The mentoring itself will be up to the mentor. I could write guidelines, but not every newbie starts at the same place and more experienced players might disagree with the guidelines. Instead I want to achieve that novices will battle other novices or even some more experienced players on a regular basis, so that they can put what they learned to the test. If at all possible I would like to see tournaments that can only be entered by novices, but that is of course a thing for the distant future.

I would like to be mentored by someone.

I expected as much, Klint will be your mentor.

Posted by: TBE Sep 25 2013, 08:38 PM

Kidding aside, I'll mentor someone.

Posted by: Freeze Sep 26 2013, 12:51 AM

Nice, I think I'll have time to write down more of my idea later today.

I'd like to offer my services as well. I'm not one of the best feto players by any means, but I've already helped quite a few of my friends starting out (some of which, have never even played normal FE). I can at least provide the foundation of basic teams, builds, and tactics. Assuming you'd have me, of course happy.gif

Meh, I might as well jump on board as a mentor, I specialize in team-building though.

Thanks Meneil and Speedy, I can use all the help I can get.

Let us all welcome OmegaSerra as our first novice which means that this has now started. Because OmegaSerra is unable to use skype a lot of the mentoring will be done http://forums.feplanet.net/index.php?showtopic=52103, all mentors may add information to this thread.

Once I'm ready to step in, I'll probably want some mentoring. o.o
For now though, I'm still busy with code, lol

Lemme give this a shot. I have some useful insight I could add.

Got skype? If you do, add me. Try kaishin no chikara. If that doesn't work go with brian.beuerman.

Welcome to the program everyone!

Posted by: Falaflame Oct 19 2013, 03:47 AM

I'm tutoring Goodguy by the way.

I'm also not available. I can only tutor one at a time.

Posted by: Niisan Oct 24 2013, 05:03 PM

Now THIS is a good idea.

I have a bit more time on my hands. And if it is at all possible, I would like to be the one to mentor rootadmin Siro. I was last SWEEP's top playtester with the balancer and overhauler Mr. Sirius, and I think that an administrator needs a different view on Fire Emblem than a pure duelist. I specialize in game theory, metagame analysis, balancing changes, creation and de/reconstruction of multiple classes and gamestyle archetypes, and being a tryhard jackass. All needed traits for an admin overhauler.

As an official, I want the big guys in charge to have such thorough understanding of the game, game theory, and game knowledge, that he will not only be a game winner, but can surpass game breakers, and become the game fixer which we all hope can happen.

If that's too presumptuous, then get Inanime if he's around. Guess it's Siro's choice to grab after all, lol

Edit: Frick, I must be losing it. Thought Ghost was Inan. Ghost, you should feel complimented.

Wooo~ Thanks a bunch. grin.gif I'll accept *cough* your offer *coughgag* once I'm *glurbleglurble* done drowning in code</p></body></html>';

I'm adding Blueswordsman to my tutoring/mentoring list. But since he's been around FETO for a while, it likely won't take him long to bring him back up to speed. I saw a few things in his teams that needed fixing, and he's willing to fix them because he wants to win more. I've also been taking a look at his tactics, and while they're okay, they could use a little bit of refining.

So yeah, won't take too much out of my schedule.

Added him to your list, just give me a heads up when he can be removed.

When I decide to start playing FETO again I'll probably need some mentoring. Haha. I'm okay, but I know my units aren't really that great and my tactics could definitely use some improvement.

In that case, I'll suggest asking Niisan to help you. He knows the mechanics in and out being a beta tester not to mention a sweep beta tester. Since you're managing FETO as well, he'll be one of the first to find something game breaking so you will likely want to go to him.

Sounds like a plan to me!
