"Of course we will," Axeimillion retorted, grabbing one of the gargoyle's helmets and spinning it around his index finger like a top. "If no one makes a fight for us, we'll just make one ourselves."

"Whoever dies is evil, whoever survives gets to be the hero. And as members of the Order, we get to decide which is which. That's justice. That's Zwi."

Despite his words, Axeimillion spoke with no trace of cynicism whatsoever. This was genuinely, 100% not only what he believed, but what he thought to be the right and true way of the world. Though the world was falling into chaos and ruin, everywhere the Order retained full occupation of remained a peaceful place to live. Therefore the Order was the only organization trustworthy enough to arbitrate that peace, including whether or not it should exist in the first place.

Simple, straightforward, pure. Just the way Axeimillion liked it.

He hefted his sword into the scabbard on his back with a low grunt. Even if they had just completed a completely arbitrary mission, the smoothly-running cogs that were the Zwi machine would hit a snag if they failed to report in a timely fashion. And if they were lucky, the men might have smuggled some entertainment into the barracks. "Let's head back."

Axeimillion thrust his massive greatsword into the scorched earth a few times in order to clean some of the demonic filth off its shining blade.

Another standard patrol over and done with. It was only slightly cathartic, not nearly enough to satisfy his overwhelming bloodlust. Sense of justice. Whatever. They were one and the same, and anyone who claimed otherwise was either lying or an idiot.

He chopped the still-flaming head off one of the mauthedoog corpses, balanced it on the flat of his sword like a spatula, and lobbed it in his pyromaniac compatriot's direction. "Catch."

Even her brilliant and impeccable eyesight was unable to detect the presence of an enemy spellcaster. Furthermore, her date was being dealt unsightly wounds in the skies that would no doubt be reflected when she shifted back, and it would be tiresome to bribe another, single woman to act as her date for the remainder of the evening.

Arcadys looked up disdainfully. It was incredibly difficult to build humanoid undead with functional wings. The few laguz corpses Arcadys had experimented on were unable to transform.

Which was no excuse, because she was the greatest. Now she was forced to do things the simple and straightforward way, like a plebeian.

She snapped her fingers again. "Sixteen, deactivate." The summon slumped silently to the floor, like a doll with its strings cut.

The dimunitive business took out a large, ornate tome, turned it to the bookmarked page, and chanted. Dark magic gathered in an ever-expanding sphere around her outstretched hand.

Then rocket-shotted like a dark beam into the back of the buzzard attacking Sylphiel with an audible crash. No tendrils, no patterns, no special effects, no finesse. Merely dull, highly effective damage. How passe.

Hey guys, I'm in the process of moving. Will hopefully have consistent internet again within the week, but don't know exactly.

8/9 Update: Have mostly moved, but will need to concentrate on jobhunt before full participation again.

*prays*

Name: Katarin Annette Zwingley
Age: 16
Class: Trooper

Appearance: Katarin is a fairly comely young lass, with the strong features and bright blue eyes that characterize the Zwingley bloodline and the pink hair that characterizes being remotely descended from the Nineveh. It just happens that in her case, her eyes have an extra gleam of what could be characterized as madness, an unfortunate side effect of too many related bloodlines being crossed among the Alacian nobility. Her clothing is extravagant and somewhat impractical. She wears a frilly-fronted coat that falls a little below mid-thigh with three rows of mother of pearl buttons sewn in vertical rows between the frills, puffed shoulders and an equally puffed belt, a pleated petticoat, and a sapphire-studded mithril pauldron that covers part of her chest, held by a strap that is basically a string of massive pearls. Adding to the effect is that she dual-wields ancient crossbows inherited from one of her forefathers, which have been gilded and blessed with holy water along with all the remaining bolts. Her hair is tied in girlish, low pigtails tied with ribbons of pure gold.

(IMG:http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/MusketeerSage/Art%20I%20Made/katarinsterncolor.png)

Personality: Katarin is a massive, unpredictable ham, highly extroverted and prone to sweeping other people away with sheer, ridiculous energy, impulsiveness, and enthusiasm. Her ideas are highly impractical and generally executed solely for the dramatic flair, regardless of the fact that she actually seems to believe her plans are physically feasible. She is hilariously incompetent in combat. She has no indoor voice, a tendency to laugh madly, and an inability to do things by halves. In her more unstable moments she can become very intense, only to break the tension immediately and act as if nothing has happened. Even something as mundane as checking into a room for the night is an epic and dramatic task. Her goal in life is to become the Emperor of Skylessia.

Katarin Annette Zwingley is also not very much like that at all. She's imperious, distant, ruthlessly pragmatic, somewhat quiet, and an avid historian. Most of the time it is a bad sign or an indication of stress if she shows this side of herself.

Katarin awoke, but did not immediately open her eyes. She knew that it was more to her advantage to listen and determine her situation, then arise in the most spectacularly over-the-top fashion imaginable.

It seemed that her wrists were manacled. Some manner of hostage situation? Perhaps House Avoret had designs to ransom her to her father.

But she could make out the voices of Nikang and Sir Doorknob, whose name she had not previously believed was important to recall. There would be no need to take the both of them as well if that were the case. Her erstwhile vassal, free of the fear and awe that held him in her sway every hour she was awake and he was within her hearing, expressed an opinion of her that was entirely in line with what she had expected. All the better that he spread this reputation to their other comrade as well.

At any rate, there was little else she could surmise from here. It was time to do what she did best.

"Hahaha!" beamed Katarin, springing to a seated position like some manner of crazed jack-in-the-box. "What a marvelous morning! Yes, I feel as though I could flutter bee-like from flower to flower, drinking of the nectar of this beautiful summer day!"

She moved as if to clasp her hands together, then tilted her head curiously. "How queer, my wrists appear to be glued to one another! Sir Nikang, be a dear and hand me the solvent!"

Um, that is really mean and my feelings are hurt
Maybe I should take back that tasty dessert
I wanted to be friends and you set me on fire
You are a big bully and probably a liar

You humans are almost all the same
You take our goodwill then you play us in games
I will go back to Hugo and show him the burns on my head
I hope that you greatly enjoy being dead

ZANZIB. VERSUS! CHRISTOOOOOOOOF

U-um hello my name is Zanzib
Your ponytail makes you appear to be a dweeb
W-wait, I am very sorry I did not mean to be so mean
But in a rapoff it is hard to fight clean

Actually, I do not wish to fight you at all
Because you are tiny fragile and small
Let us have a forgiveness hug and be friends
I will bake you a pastry and we will make amends

"I humbly express my gratitude for your benevolence, then," replied Arcadys, delicately taking the exotic owl laguz's hand and leading her out.

It was always mildly cumbersome to take the lead with such difference in height, but years of experience had honed her technique to surgical precision. She had no doubt that she was not only a competent dancer considering the circumstances, but an extraordinary one with ingenuity beyond that of most of these wretches. For instance, rather than attempting to hold her arm up for her partner to attempt to twirl under, she spun her into her arms.

She smiled at Sylphiel. "It appears to me that you are exactly the correct size for me to put my arms around. Perhaps this is a sign."

Naturally, some flash of blinding light decided to so rudely interrupt the vision she was admiring. Fortunately for her, the owl woman was sufficiently tall to block out most of it for her.

Then came the dark magic blasts. She snapped her fingers. "Sixteen, to me!"

Her guardian summon snapped to attention from across the room, running to shield its master from the dark magic. Its body writhed in what almost appeared to be simulated agony as it took increasing amounts of damage.

Arcadys looked on with nothing so much as resembling pity. "Hmph, I shall need to make adjustments later. Let us locate the source of this untimely distraction, milady." She began making her way across the room with her summon acting as a walking shield for her and her companion, following the retreating laguz.

Atta boy Spamm.

I've had a lot of fun RPing with you, whether it was Ellis and Zwingley, Gaz and Banks, or heck, David and Katarin. Even though I joined FEP and Skylessia a little later than you, I feel as though I've watched you mature as both a writer and a person over the years. So, while I'm a little sad to see you go, I'm also proud of you and your determination to pursue your dreams and live your offline life.

I don't really play WoW, but maybe I'll ask Vel or Foe to say hi for me. See you around Cole!

Hahaha, how delightful!

It seemed that Katarin's reputation had preceded her, if the knowing, somewhat terrified and stymied glances between the obvious adventurers-with-a-cause were anything to come by. Why, were it not for the fact that she wished to drive forth the point of her public persona as palpably as possible, it might have been a waste of a dramatic entrance!

"I am greatly charmed, dearest Captain von Avoret and Lieutenant Thomas, Sir Doorknob, others whose names I have not had the pleasure of hearing!" declared Katarin. She smiled graciously, if lopsidedly, at Feliss's barb, and immediately sat next to her with the ease of someone with no sense of physical space. "Why, sweet sister, is your business not so noble that it might be the charge of all willing to take up the cause? Come, let us embrace and settle our differences!"

The Zwingley moved to engage the little thief in a warm, bonecrushing hug.

QUOTE(Darth_Slaverus @ Jun 22 2011, 06:31 PM) *
In my opinion the main source of stagnation is a general hesitancy on the mods' part to recruit new mods to replace those who resign or leave, which results in slower grading times as things get bogged down. Now, maybe it's just me, but I think grading is made out to be a lot more difficult than it really is. It does not take long to read a topic, even multiple times, unless it is abnormally long or the posts themselves are massively bloated. I mean, look at Solo during his tenure as a mod. He pretty much graded any topic he took within a day, and he clearly did not rush them, as his commentary was hardly sparse.

Solo also burnt out on RL and RPing in general to the point that he had to leave FEP. A full RPing schedule + a few gradings-a-day + the rigors of online life is less sustainable than you'd think, particularly when combined with the fact that moderation is essentially an unpaid customer service job. Some people can maintain that pace for longer than others, but ultimately everyone slows down or cracks or has to take a break.

I think that a less centralized/regimented RP system, while not necessarily more sustainable, would be less catastrophic in regards to change.

Dear Skylessia:

BAWWWWWWWWWW I HATE ALL YOU FUCKERS

Just kidding. But yeah, I quit.

Nononono don't go all dramallama on me Jesus Christ what I mean is I just handed in my mod badge. I will still be RPing and stuff, though I'm never going to be in more than 4 RPs at a time again because that shit is just ridiculous. For me. Not for an ubermensch like Vice.

But yeah. I realized that I became the very kind of mod I once sought not to be: the Dead Weight mod. I've got a ton of stuff going on offline right now, what with moving and sudden social obligations everywhere, and it wouldn't be fair to the Skylessia community to make them wait another month for gradings. We need some fresh, delicious, bright-eyed bushy-tailed blood in here. Or maybe some old, stolid blood, I dunno.

Either way, I AM STILL HERE but I am no longer a mod. SALUTE TO MOD TEAM

Jonah ineptly jerked his generic-looking Crimean military-issue sword up in time to parry the dinky knife headed straight for his inconveniently exposed abdomen. Just as the thief drew back, an axeman and a guy who looked way more competent with a sword than he did moved in.

The sword knight staggered backwards, cursing as he looked out on his impending doom. Shit, why were they going all gangbang on him? He didn't even do anything, he was just an innocent bystander! Go figure. It wasn't fair. Nothing was ever fair, especially not to a nice, normal guy like him.

He swung his sword in a clumsy arc at the brigand's head. The axeman ducked with ease, landing a crushing blow to Jonah's leg as he did so. He dropped to the ground with an agonized scream.

The brigand spat down on him in contempt. The myrmidon glanced disinterestedly at Jonah and walked over to engage the lion, as if he weren't even worth the time.

That burned. So that how it was going to be? He wasn't even good enough to get skewered? What the hell?

The thief knelt behind him and whipped out his knife, holding it to Jonah's throat. "You're comin' with us mate. Not 'at you'll sell too good, mind, but another body's always good fer somethin'."

"That sounds greFUCK YOU!" Jonah snarled, grabbing the man's knife arm with both hands, rolling over, and slamming it into the ground next to him. The brigand decided maybe this potential slave wasn't worth the trouble after all and raised his hammer overhead for a finishing blow. Jonah had not thought this through.

He was going to die, he'd never gotten laid, everyone and their mom had shown him up, and the biggest kick in the balls was that no one would care one way or the other.

OOC: Enter lion, or exeunt Jonah? Either way entertainment.
