So, I came home from work tonight, and shortly thereafter, I received an automated email from the server saying that there was a possible hard drive failure soon. So, obviously, I was immediately on the phone with the hosting company to get this fixed. They had to put in a replacement HDD and transfer everything over, which was the cause for the downtime.

Sorry for any inconvenience and such.

Good signs from the new server hosts... always what you want to see straight after joining a new service.

Yeah.. they said it was most likely faulty from the start and at least they were there to immediately replace it with no hassle and no charge.

How do you explain the most recent downtime, that has only just this minute ended? This is becoming deeply irritating.

No idea yet. Really only one of the first times we've had unexplained downtime though. httpd randomly failed. Well, actually, it happened a week ago maybe, but was again only down for a few minutes.

Yes well, I didn't expect you to know yet, I was being impatient out of sheer irritation. When you start to have continuous random problems popping up immediately after a major server shift, people are going to wonder why things were moved in the first place, since we rarely had these problems on the old set-up.

I don't know about continuous random problems. As I said, that's really the only random downtime that happened that lasted a little longer than a couple minutes aside from the one last night that wasn't random at all since Jeff initiated it.

As for the old server, we did have loading problems a lot, not complete downtime like that (until GPXPlus was introduced), but a lot of slow loading at peak times. We also couldn't have GPXPlus up on the old server because it couldn't handle it. Now with this new one, we constantly have 200+ people at a time on GPXPlus and we still run smoothly (98% of the time?).

Okay, I lied, the didn't transfer everything over to the new HDD. They didn't have the root password for the server because I'd changed it, so they couldn't, but will be taking care of it sometime tonight.

I hope not! It always happens in the middle of a long and impressive post that is only a 5th of what it was originally when I redo it!

The downtime made me lose a battle in FETO.

I was set to ready, as I was, then the downtime came, and I had to sleep, so I lost my battle. *sigh*

Was there downtime yesterday? I couldn't reach any of the sites that were hosted by Sadistic Makalov, but could everything else.
