Why not?

Maybe you should pay .01 $ for every byte it takes up and in groups of ~5$. bytez are cheaper than that but weapons currently take up like 24 bytes min(depends on how SaS did his items). It's a waste to have weapons cost another 8*characters. It all adds up, really.

Then there is the confusion factors.

Hm, I'm sensing some poor newb is going to make heavy bronzes for their entire squad, and suddenly they have no weapons (IMG:style_emoticons/blue/irritated.gif)

Hell, it already pseudo-happened to me, as a unit I had forged all their weapons for suddenly ended up unarmed (IMG:style_emoticons/blue/irritated.gif)

Another reason to have no naming: You can't really personalize a weapon enough with modifications to make it worthy of a unique name in the first place. We'd end up with several weapons with different names, yet identical stats. That definitely wouldn't be cool.

A random thought: Shouldn't the exchange rate for MT/HIT/CRIT be 1/4/6 instead of 1/5/8? Right now, a Heavy sword of any kind is inferior to a normal axe of the same kind. At a 1/4/6 exchange rate, all weapon types are equal in the forge, as a Heavy sword is the same as a normal axe.

Well, the numbers were originally chosen so that a Heavy is weaker than the regular of the next rank up... though, with the +1 rank from forge, I guess that isn't really all that much of a problem now. I guess it's something worth considering.
