Seriously, just because people are too immature to accept that long-standing contributory members have a fancy icon, I don't see that as a reason to remove it, but rather a reason for them to grow up.

As others said, we're thinking of reforming it, but not eliminating it entirely.

But... but I like the larger PM inbox (IMG:style_emoticons/blue/sealed.gif) I don't see why people would care that former staff members / people who've been active members in good standing for a long time get a title that accurately reflects them having been member of the site for a long time, and nice but by no means essential perks.

I dunno, if people are going to complain about the title so much... they need new things to complain about, the title "Veteran" that some of us have is a pretty trivial thing to get worked up over.

it's really just subjective favoritism ("contributing to the site" lol), which will happen anyways even if there isn't a special group.

keep it, this way everyone has a set-in-stone list of who the fep elite are.

Might be a bit late to barge in but I do like the Veterans group. And I don't mind people being chosen by the staff to get into it or former staff members to be in it. I feel that's the exact goal of the veterans group, people that have been around and/or helped out the community here.

You do realise that I didn't change the rules at all, right?

Adding my two cents into this, I can see the strife caused as a result of having a Veteran's group and being a new comer. (I personally don't care about titles or positions since I've been everything from mod to banned) It puts expectations on new members that they must become a veteran in order to fully excepted into the forum, and as a result, they will most likely make a stupid error and fall from grace. It's very similar to people who want to be moderators or VIPs, or just have a high post count. They feel it's the only way to be part of group and be acknowledged instead of just being a nobody that you just talk to in order to be nice and people really don't care about you.

Counter-point of course is that Veterans is people who have contributed to the forum and shown they have gone above the call for what is excepted of a normal member. These members should be given certain recognition for their achievements in being friends or contributors.

tl;dr newbies come in and see Veterans as a group that MUST be a part of in order to be accepted in the forum and will cause problems, and counter-point is that Veterans is a status that is given to those who earn it.

Thanks for adding in your 2 cents and all but this thread is over 2 months old and has already been resolved. The Veteran group is staying and it was reworked a bit.

Closing the thread now..
