Yes. Clive Staples Lewis. A brilliant theologian.

I read it a few years ago, so I'm trying to remember the details. Lewis was a deep thinker, and I admire him a great deal. The Screwtape Letters was an amazing work from a very different perspective. xD Something I'm sure fellow theological thinkers probably criticized.
For those of you who don't know, Screwtape was a demon, writing letters to his nephew, who was a demon-in-training. His nephew was assigned to a young man, and Screwtape was giving him advice on how to perform his job as a demon - which is to make the man be bad, of course. Lewis examines human nature, temptation and of course, sin through Screwtape's letters.

I recommend it, and I've been meaning to read it again for a while now. xD Maybe this is a sign? O_O;

The ending was a bit of a surprise...

Azgarth was a very mysterious country, worlds away from all the others. Faa, the capitol city, seemed very ancient; it lacked the unnecessary modern conventions and conveniences of other Skylessian societies. The citizens all dressed in robes, and carried mystic airs as they travel the dirt laden cobblestone roads. Phyllis had visited it only one other time before, and it left such a dreamy impression on her. She had always hoped she could return there.

Count Gerard of Pandera, a city in Olivan far north of its capitol, appointed Phyllis as the young woman's escort to Azgarth, and was to remain with the student until she completed her journey.

"So, what brings you to Olivan?" Count Gerard had asked. "It's quite a ways away from home."

"I'm on a pilgrimage of sorts," Lady Tirana replied. "My mentor actually suggested it. Said it would behoove me in my studies."

"What kind of studies?" the count asked.

The young woman raised her stave and smiled. "Magic, of course!"

Phyllis's father, Daniel Aran, was in service of the Count as a General and close advisor. Having her father in such a high position did not garner Phyllis any special attention or favor, but she still encountered a great many prejudice's among her male peers. When Phyllis wasn't in the service of the Pandera sky patrol, she was often given the task of escorting high class members of society to and fro, which made other members of the House guard jealous. These trips had often landed her in the company of the Count's son and sole heir, Reece Gerard. Reece was an officer within the Olivan military, and was recently assigned to the capital city to serve out his duties. He was the one that had given Phyllis her valued Pegasai as a gift when she graduated the local military academy as a recruit.

There were only a handful of women in service of the House of Gerard, and a majority of them were clerics and troubadours. The only other warrior woman was Commander Claire Devant, a well seasoned Great Knight, and Phyllis's father's only other superior. Devant had known the Count for many years, and was brutish, yet wise, woman. She had also known Phyllis's father from long years past from his decorated service in the Val Mae army. Aside from her father, Commander Devant was Phyllis's only other valued mentor and idol.

---

"I see it!" Tirana cried, shouting above the wind. "Faa!"

"Indeed!" Phyllis peered ahead. "It's won't be long now."

Tirana looked over her shoulder towards the setting sun. Phyllis was restraining the girl with her lance, laying it over Tirana's lap and holding fast. Aali's beats were slow and steady, and Phyllis wondered if her mount needed a rest. Looking below at the caravan, Phyllis was preparing to call her horse to begin the descent. There were small, dark groves of trees dotting each side of the main road. She kicked Aali's side and leaned forward.

"Hold tight, milady," she said.

"What? We can't be descending already! The capitol isn't far..."

Phyllis laughed. "We can't fly into the capital, milady. They have sky patrols, and don't take to kindly to outsiders just flying into their zones. We must enter the city properly so as not to be considered insurgents and arrested."
Tirana scrunched up her nose and frowned. "Very well..."

As Aali spiraled downward, the whistle of the wind made it very hard for Phyllis to hear anything else. It brushed against her eyes, making them water. She could not rub them, and tried to blink the irritation away. Tirana let out a high pitched scream, as Aali seemed be knocked with in impact on one side, causing him to lose his balance. Phyllis felt loosened feathers graze by her face, and she called out urgently to her horse. Her sight was blinded by the sun and wind, and she could hear the cries of the escorts below. She grasped tightly to the reins and tried to regain control as she leaned hard into Lady Tirana.

"What's happening?!" Tirana screamed. "Phyllis!"

Phyllis had no answer, and remained focus on trying to land safely, but the ground came upon them suddenly, and Aali landed with a thundering crash. He fell to his side, throwing off his passengers and sending them flying several feet away. Phyllis and Tirana rolled onto the dusty ground, and were quickly surround by the attendents.

"Milady Tirana! Lady Tirana! Are you all right?!"

Tirana coughed on the dust, and Phyllis let go and fell onto her back, letting them take the girl. They lifted the dizzy young woman slowly to her feet.

"Oh my," she stuttered, holding her head. "What on earth..." her attention was then captured by the body of the horse, it's chest heaving and mouth foaming. Protruding from one of its ebony wings, was an arrow. "Oh no! Phyllis! Look!"

Phyllis shot up and quickly crawled over to her companions side. She glared at the arrow, gently touching the tender surface of the wing around it. Aali wing flinched.
"Quickly!" Phyllis hissed, turning to the others. "Search the groves! Whoever did this cannot be far! Now quickly...go!"

Read her quotes with SaS, she was implying it.

"Implying" being the operative word. Even SaS knows that's not the case. So keep your speculations to yourself.

Most Underrated

Most Knowledgeable Phyrro Sara

Another where I could make a great case for myself, but since I can't, I vote Sara, because anyone who's in her third decade of life is smarter than us, and she really is more intelligent and more mature, and she understands things like other immature people don't. I love having conversations with her. She's a great person and very understanding, and those things often tie into being knowledgeable.

how can i be in my third decade of life if i'm only 22? (IMG:http://www.feplanet.net/forums/style_emoticons/blue/tongue.gif)

i'll edit this with my votes another day...
