For the next four days I'll be in Palestine, Texas as part of my freshman orientation for Texas A&M University. I'm heading to College Station in a few hours to catch a bus. I doubt I'll have internet, but I can check. After the orientation thing is over I have a student conference to finalize my schedule and moving into my dorm, with the semester starting on the 31st. It's probably better if I withdraw from all my current RPs, as I'm not sure of my ability to post for the next five to eight days.

In Insanity's Descent, IB can bunny Tobias to the finish.

I didn't get far enough into anything else. I'm sorry guys.

Tobias gazed quietly from the confines of his cell as arguments and wailing slowly began to come from every direction. The resistance fighters had been beaten, bruised and captured, but they were alive. He rifled through the options for each person in the detainment area and how they would play out, glancing over at the pair of guards, and set to thinking, remaining still and quiet. He realized right away that out of everyone, he was the man to whom attention should not be drawn, for he possibly had the best options with which to assist the others and alter their predicament. Their weapons had been stripped and left on a table near the end of their hallway. In scrutiny of the situation, he nearly got sucked into speculation on why the lord's scheme had swiveled so suddenly from slaughter to seizure; yet he found it impossible to focus on, considering their position. He knew that the cell assignments had to be random considering the order and location of the prisoners; he knew that every person he had seen willfully and successfully fighting back against the lord's men was alive and in his general area; and he knew that the search and seizure of their weapons had been hasty, or, at the very least, executed with little effort. That, at least, was a simple conclusion, considering the lockpick that still remained in the deepest recesses of his pants pocket.

Fingering it slowly, gingerly, he smiled darkly. It may have been his fortune that the guards were too preoccupied with checking the contents of his belt and its pouches than his normal pockets. Whatever the case, it sure made things easier. Although...

In consideration of said pouches, he regrettably noted that the item he had swiped earlier had been confiscated along with the rest of their contents. He resolved to take it back if it were at all possible.

With the guards clearly preoccupied by the racket on either side, he rose gingerly and slid to the door of his cell, moving as quietly and deliberately as he could, and with a deft swipe of his arm, removed the lockpick from his pocket and silently slipped it into the hole of the cell door's lock. He checked the room one last time to reassure himself that he could make it to the table, which was only a few feet away, and back before the guards turned on him. It seemed to be a relatively solid certainty, considering that one of the two had his back to Tobias and the other was, though adjacent, turned slightly away as well, berating the heron girl. At Tobias' last moment of deliberation, another man spoke up across the way from the girl. This did nothing but finalize it.

With a light bit of tinkering and a quick turn, Toby engaged the lockpick and slid the door open as silently as he could, though he was more concerned with getting moving than with the ultimate result of the door's opening. Slithering over to the table, he grabbed his stiletto tightly, grimly remembering the pain in his arm; knowing the importance of fighting through it, just this once, he then turned quickly to scamper back to the occupied cells. With no time to waste, he moved to behind the guard that was facing the boisterous man, sliding the knife up in front of his throat and drawing it across rapidly, slicing it open. The guard fell with a revolting sound that mixed a gurgle and a grunt, but the thief was in motion again before he hit the ground. Hearing the sound, the remaining guard turned to survey the threat in time to meet his end at the knife's point. Removing it with a squelch from his neck, Tobias stepped back and exhaled, clutching his throbbing arm with a bloody hand. Turning to the cells, he glanced into each for a moment, exhaling, before locating Brigh. Scooping to remove the keyring to the cells from the first dead guard, he pushed it into the lock and turned, setting her free, and handed her the keys as he moved to the other nearby cells with his lockpick. There was only so much time to be had.

Sorry about all this IB. Writer's block combined with a dry socket. But I've got a third of my post written out.

EDIT: Sorry to make you wait so long. I feel terrible. I finally got it up though. I hope it turned out okay. That was how I pictured it in my mind, I just wasn't able to write it out as fluidly as I saw it.

That's alright with me. I'm having trouble with time lately and I wasn't planning on having Benoît get involved in a barfight anyway. I don't mind skipping a post that would just be him watching.

This is tricky. I promise I'm tryin, guys. IB, they took everyone's weapons, right? Normally it's not good to spoil posts, but I'm thinking something like having Toby pick the lock while the guards are distracted, slink over to the weapons, take out one of the guards and toss a few through the bars (those that'll fit) as he struggles with the other one (seeing as how I doubt he'd be able to kill both without a fight; it wouldn't happen quick enough).

Or have him kill/maim/stab both, if there's time, I'm not sure. lol

Sorry IB, wasn't up to it today. I'm in head-splitting pain, making it hard to think straight. You have my word that I'll post, no matter how good or bad it is, as soon as I possibly can. Which I feel like I can safely say should be tomorrow.

To avoid godmodding, I'd like to go ahead and ask now if Tobias would be able to pick the lock and get out, considering his trade, and work on getting the others (or at least Brigh) free as well.

I'm recovering from surgery, but even before I had it, I was wondering exactly what I (and others) am supposed to do exactly. I know break out, but how to go about it/where to go/how to RP it and if we get caught, or where we escape to/where we go from there, etc.

That's another large part of the problem that prevents it from being any more than theory. Yes, you need a license to drive a car, fly a plane, etc., but those are machines in which the decision to operate or not operate them lies exclusively with the person who may or may not hold the license; likewise, in instances where a dog license is required, the person may still choose to not purchase the dog. Impregnation cannot always be predicted, nor can it be controlled or reversed. It's possible to accidentally have a child, whereas it's not possible to accidentally get in a car and drive it. Even if a married couple is too idiotic to raise a child without making them just as stupid, or, more objectively, if a married couple does not have the economic resources to properly raise a child shouldn't have kids doesn't mean they won't, because there is that chance, and it's absurd to tell a married couple they should have to use a condom every time they have sex (and even that doesn't completely prevent accidental pregnancy). I guess from here the debate leads into abortion, and I don't want to lead it there.

I agree with your idea, it's simply that the thought of actually policing one of life's natural (and generally celebrated, for better or worse) processes is a hard one to buy into.

I think that's too extreme a measure (especially considering that to do so would be impossible, considering the scope of the project and the aforementioned red tape to jump through), but there is an ample, and I mean an unbelievably large, quantity of evidence to suggest that some people, and again I mean many, are simply too stupid to have children. And then there are those for whom economic or other disadvantages would provide a bad environment for the kid to grow up in.

Should stupid people stop having kids who they raise to be stupid people? Yes. Should potential parents consider whether their situation might lead to a poor environment for the child to grow up in? Yes.

Should there be "parent licenses," and furthermore, would it be realistically possible to enact an efficient and beneficial policy to such a degree? Doubtful.

I'd've pictured him following at a much further (safer) distance, just to be within sight, but being careful to hide when possible and such; however, it's your RP, and as such there's not much to complain about. I'm fine with it. I've got an early surgery tomorrow to get my wisdom teeth out, but I'll post once I feel able.

Another inn...

Egh. With a blank stare, the White Stag of Gallia confronted the building before him, which, as it turned out, was remarkably similar many of the others he had seen lately. Despite his best efforts, he could not avoid inns. Or rather, such was what he told himself as he opened the door and stepped in, now smiling. Truthfully, he sought them out, but to admit that to himself? He'd much rather not. It simply always seemed to him that interesting people were found and interesting things were seen in inns. Why, he wouldn't quite be able to tell if he ever bothered to think about it. He knew, though, that something to take his mind off of things and people to entertain him were a few playful conversations away. He may pick up a little factoid or two, perhaps even a few rumors, that could help him with his ultimate goal...

...That being...

...what, again?

Well, damn, I forgot.

Except he had not, not for a single moment for the last few decades. But he preferred to try to do so. With it still on his mind, he took a seat at the bar, his manner low-key. The irony of the situation was that he was dressed in a way that would make him stand out to anyone, but perhaps all the drunken fools in every direction would not be able to see straight enough to tell. Resting in his chosen seat, his sharp eyes glanced to his right, spotting such a person, absolutely laying into every glass he was handed. It was...odd, in a way. Benoît sniffed the air lightly, his nostrils flooded with the stench of alcohol. Exaggeratedly, he nearly swooned off of his seat, mocking (to himself) the man and any like him.

While he enjoyed himself, he paid only minimal attention to two separate incidents that took place near him; in fact, they were further down the bar, and one of them even managed to make use of the fool. Benoît rubbed his cheek as that man got up and left eventually. Following that, another stranger piqued the "interest" of the odd thug or two, but quickly recused himself after realizing he was in over his head.

Smart choice. Though I must say my day would have been so much better if that situation had gone the opposite direction, the Stag chided with a frown. That man, too, left the bar eventually, more than likely to head to his own room. Benoît passed the time fiddling with his hair, waiting for something to jump out at him.

You once said hi to me just based on the fact that we had "similar-sounding names," and I thought that was kind of cool. I never got around to telling you that it's actually pronounced Firo rather than Piro, but it was still good that you reached out. I didn't know too much else about you, but I wish you luck in all you do.

He won't; he's not back playing in Coors Field. I'm really not worried about it at all. What we really need to do is win tomorrow to take this series from the Mets, then play the Cubs really well. We need to come out of that series solidly in second place, no matter who's in first, and keep going from there. Tonight sucked, but I don't really expect much out of Russ Ortiz, and to be 50-47 at this point is pretty good.

If it's possible, Murasaki, I'd like to ask to be skipped for this round of posting. I don't want to waste space and time (for everybody) by adding another post about Tobias listening to what's being said from his seat further down the bar, because as long as it's alright with you, I'd rather have him just follow them covertly when they leave, being discovered later, than come up and introduce himself; it'd be more in-character.

"Huh? Y-You know, that Beorc who called me a Sub-human... and you said to him, 'You'd be surprised to see to whom the term sub-human applies more...' Remember, mister?"

Benoît looked blankly in her direction as she tortured himself in thought. He had truly seen about enough of that during the day to label it no longer entertaining. It was baffling, he decided, but it seemed that many a living being had the same tendency to think way too much, way too hard. The White Stag ran a hand vainly over his expensive garments as he watched her.

"Oh dear, that was me, wasn't it?" He frowned.

Indeed, it's almost painful to imagine what's going through the minds of those trying to understand the town's situation. Tsk, tsk.

Inwardly, he gave himself a playful chastising.

Who knows. With this, he shrugged, as if to simply punctuate his conversation with himself, but it was doubtful that his uninvited company noticed, keeping in mind her inner debate.

She mumbled to herself for a few moments, impossible for him to hear.

Oh?

Somehow he imagined this to be a good thing, but it did leave the stag unsure of whether to lean in and listen, pretend to care or continue into the building.

"...Do you think he's this 'Face' he talked about, mister Stag?"

"Hmm?" Benoît responded at first, his eyes drifting about; then: "Yeah."

It was with lackadaisical indifference that he considered everything around him one last time, with the realization dawning on him quickly but dully that he wasn't much in the mood for conversation any longer. Without so much as a word he turned gracefully and opened the door, slipping inside yet again. He made sure to shut it delicately behind him, although there was no telling whether the girl would follow or go bother someone else. Benoît was faced, dauntingly—he might add—by the task of deciding exactly what he felt like doing. It wouldn't be too long before the lockdown of the town would begin to irritate him, but there was no need to worry about it.
